1. Raw materials
1.1 Material-Bakelite
Bakelite’s chemical name is phenolic plastic, which is the first type of plastic to be put into industrial production. It has high mechanical strength, good insulation, heat resistance and corrosion resistance, so it is often used in the manufacture of electrical materials, such as switches, lamp holders, earphones, telephone casings, instrument casings, etc. . Its advent is of great significance to industrial development.
1.2 Bakelite method
Phenolic and aldehyde compounds can be made into phenolic resin by condensation reaction under the action of acidic or basic catalyst. Mix phenolic resin with sawn wood powder, talcum powder (filler), urotropine (curing agent), stearic acid (lubricant), pigment, etc., and heat and mix in a mixer to obtain Bakelite powder. The bakelite powder is heated and pressed in a mold to obtain a thermosetting phenolic plastic product.
2.Characteristics of bakelite
The characteristics of bakelite are non absorbent, non-conductive, high temperature resistance and high strength. It is often used in electrical appliances, so it is called “bakelite”. Bakelite is made of powdered phenolic resin, which is mixed with sawdust, asbestos or Taoshi, and then pressed out in a mold at high temperature. Among them, phenolic resin is the first synthetic resin in the world.
Phenolic plastic (bakelite): the surface is hard, brittle and fragile. There is a sound of wood when knocking. It is mostly opaque and dark (brown or black). It is not soft in hot water. It is an insulator, and its main component is phenolic resin.
